Bittersweet Moments in Motherhood

Last weekend my son finally got his big boy bed after the snow foiled delivery for 3 weeks in a row. He was very excited and has gone to bed in it every night without a fuss. He's sleeping better and that means we're sleeping better too. The arrival of the big boy bed meant that we had to do something with the crib and changing table/dresser. Tim posted it on Craig's list and we had about 6 offers in just a few hours. A couple of days later someone came and bought Nick's crib and dresser and as they took it out of the house I realized that was the very last of the baby items. There is nothing left now. The baby clothes and toys have all been packed up and sent to our neighbor who needed them. The same with the stroller and bouncy seat. Nick outgrew diapers at Thanksgiving so the only thing left had been the furniture. I cried as it left because it was the end of all things baby around here. I'm thrilled that my baby is out of diapers, that was easy to get over. I'm happy about the big boy bed too. He's ready and I'm happy that he's adjusted so easily to it. For the most part, I'm thrilled to be rid of the baby furniture too. He's having no problems with this, why should I? There is just this tiny part that finds the whole thing bittersweet. I can't help but feel a tiny bit of regret that I will never put my baby to bed in a crib again or have to change a diaper on that dresser. Truth be told though, he'd been too big to change on the dresser for a long time before he outgrew diapers and we'd taken the side off the crib to make it more of a toddler bed a long time ago too. We've been gradually working our way towards this for a long time. Now that its here, its hard to believe how far we've come in just 5 years. I will never forget putting the crib together before Collin was born or all the many times I laid my boys down to sleep in it. I don't need the crib itself to hang onto those memories. We have new memories to make now and it sure is a whole lot easier to put them to bed in big boy beds than in cribs.

UPS SUCKS!

Dear UPS:

I know some companies monitor the internet to see what people are saying about their company. Well, today I am saying that you suck. I can see why you might not want to deliver my package. I know my street isn't perfectly clear but there is a pretty good sized travel lane that has been plowed clear to the pavement and all of the sidewalks are shoveled and in pretty good condition. I could get over that. I am outraged, however, that you have removed the option to change the delivery address or to pick up my package at the UPS location. I am also unable to speak with an agent. I just get a busy signal when I try. This is totally unacceptable. I don't mind holding. I might be irritated at a long hold time, but I'm a lot more irritated that you just have too many calls so you aren't taking any at all. For a company that usually has good customer service you have let me down and I'm not about to forget it. I will not be using UPS in the future and anytime I have the choice of how someone ships something to me, I will be choosing FEDEX. So just to be perfectly clear here, my gripe isn't that you wouldn't deliver my package in bad weather. It is that you took away every option I had to communicate with you in a way that facilitates the delivery of my package in a timely manner. I was more than willing to drive the 20 minutes to pick it up yet I can't get in touch with you to set that up. Your lousy customer service just lost you a customer who previously preferred you to FEDEX.

Thanks for nothing,

Erin

Snowpocalypse 2010

Wow! That's about all I can say about this storm. 33 inches of snow have fallen and there is another storm on the way Tuesday night. Tim did a great job digging us out. There is a trench between our house and our neighbors so we can go back and forth and the cars and sidewalks are cleaned off. The amount of snow is pretty unbelievable and a picture is worth a 1000 words so here they are....

The big boy bed is NOT coming :-(

At least not until next weekend thanks to this whopping snow storm Mother Nature sent our way this weekend. It is currently snowing like gangbusters and I'd say an inch or so has already accumulated. I have no idea how much we're going to end up with, they conservative predictions are 16" with a possibility of up to 30" or more! Check out www.footsforecast.org for information on this storm. They've been right about all the storms this winter and have posted the information long before any of the news channel put it out. We went to the grocery store on Tuesday so we didn't have to fight the crowds yesterday and boy and I glad. I'm glad Collin hasn't started school yet because I'm sure he wouldn't be going for a good portion of the week. Who knows, maybe I won't be going to work Monday either. And as if a ginormo storm wasn't enough there is another storm coming on Tuesday. Its not supposed to be record breaking like this one but really, how much more snow are we going to get this winter?

The big boy bed is coming

Nick's big boy bed is being delivered on Sunday and its not coming fast enough. For the last month or maybe even longer he's been getting up in the middle of the night, EVERY NIGHT, and trying to get in bed with me. Sometimes its easy to put him back to bed but there are lots of times when its a long drawn out battle to get him back to bed. He tells me all the time he wants his big boy bed. We went out and got his mickey mouse bedspread and sheets this weekend. I'm really praying that having a big boy bed and lots of thick warm cozy blankets will help keep him in bed all night. The one thing that may put a glitch in my plans is all this blasted snow we've been getting this winter. There is supposed to be more tomorrow night into Wednesday and then another storm this weekend. Here's hoping the big boy comes. I'm going to have one very disappointed little boy on my hands if it doesn't.
