I Should Probably Explain #9
Collin speaks very well for his age and most the time its pretty easy to understand what he's telling you. However, the one thing that he talks a lot about but doesn't say very well is Peperidge Farms Gold Fish. He absolutely loves them and Mommy doesn't buy them because they are a treat he gets at Grammy's. Needless to say he spends a lot of time talking about going to Grammy's and getting some Gold Fish. Unfortunately this usually comes out sounding something like "Grammy got the go shit". I don't know why fish comes out this way, but it has ever since he learned the word and no matter how many times I pronounce it for him, it comes out the same way. The other day we went grocery shopping and I was in the gold fish isle (can you guess where this is going?) Collin got very excited because he spots this kind of stuff a mile away. He's sitting there in the cart on a Sunday around 11 when everyone and their uncle does their grocery shopping yelling at the top of his lungs that "I wanna go shit". It didn't even register at first that the other people in the isle were not hearing my child ask for gold fish the way I was because I hear it that way so often. All they were seeing was a small child telling his mother that he needed a bathroom in a rather impolite manner. I can only imagine what they must have thought of me because it took me a few screams to realize that I'd better loudly announce that I would buy him the gold fish. If I'd been watching, I would have gone home and told Tim about the lousy Mom I saw in the grocery store whose kid was telling her he had to do a #2 and it didn't even phase her that he used such language. I'll reserve judgement on others from now on.
Bedtime Woes
As I'm writing this, Collin is upstairs screaming his little head off because its bedtime and he doesn't want to go to sleep. This has been going on for months and months. We have a bedtime routine, it varies a little from night to night but the important parts stay intact. We take a bath (he's got really dry skin so this is the part we skip sometimes), read stories and then lay down to go to sleep. As long as Mommy lays down with him, bed time is easy. The minute I get up to leave the room the fun begins. He immediately climbs out of bed and runs after me and proceeds to scream himself to sleep. I often find him sleeping on the floor next to the door when I go back upstairs. He's gotten really good at sleeping in his big boy bed once we pick him up off the floor, or if he happens to actually fall asleep in it. That usually involves Mommy laying with him until he falls asleep-this isn't quick either. We're talking a good 45 minutes or more! He just doesn't seem to need as much sleep as the "experts" say he should have. I hope the second one imitate his brother's bedtime habits!
What Does a Red Light Mean?
For the last few months, every time we get in the car, Collin "helps us drive" by telling us what color the lights are and what each color means. He's really gotten good at "green means go" and "red means stop". A few times, he's been paying more attention than we were because he'd say "green means go" and, sure enough, we'd look up to find that the light had turned green while we were talking. A couple of weeks ago, Tim decided to teach him that a yellow light means slow. Its not one we get to practice much. However, Collin has developed a sense of humor, and now if you ask him what a red light means, he answers "Red means stop" then he gets this adorable grin and giggles and says "Red-slow". Correcting him has become a game he really enjoys. I insist red means stop and he insists it means slow and we both giggle a lot. The other day we were playing this game on the way to daycare and after about the third time he insisted that red means slow, I said "Collin is teasing Mommy". His response? "Collin funny" and a whole lot of giggling. These are the kinds of moments I treasure.
Here Goes Nothing....
In just a few short weeks the newest Bezek boy will be making his big entrance to this world. I realize I've been woefully neglectful about keeping in touch with all our friends and family and I've resolved to try to do a little better from now on. My thanks to Kayris whose fantastic blog gave me the idea to try it myself.
Collin is as funny and full of life as ever. He certainly keeps us on our toes. We are constantly amazed at all the new things he says and does everyday. For instance, the other night as we were putting him to bed, I sneezed and Collin looked up and said "Bless you, Mommy". Not that we don't say such things around here, we just didn't know that he knew to say it. I'm proud to say that he is a very polite little boy.
We talk about having a baby brother all the time trying to prepare him for the big day. If you ask him "what's in Mommy's belly?" he'll now answer "baby". There has also been a baby at daycare for the last few months that he seems to really like, so the baby concept isn't going to be totally foreign. I think there will be a few issues when he realizes that his brother is here to stay, but in the end, he'll really enjoy having him around. I'm being optomistic...
Yes, I keep referring to the baby as "the baby" or "baby brother" because we still have no idea what we are naming this poor child! Feel free to suggest your favorite names.
